Although the Mk 7 helmet had an improved liner over previous models, there was still room to introduce a system of foam pads to help provide a better and more comfortable fit for soldiers who were issued with the helmet. This comfort system included pads for the crown and sides of the helmet which were pre-fitted with velcroed tape fasteners to allow them to be fitted within the helmet and a pair of covers for the helmet’s buckles (only one is left in this set). They were issued in a small plastic bag for the soldier to fit himself:

To help the soldier fit the pads, a detailed leaflet accompanied the items, with a diagram explaining exactly where to fit each comfort pad:
It is not clear how popular the comfort kits were with troops. An unscientific look at the thread on Mk 7 helmets on War Relics suggests maybe 20-25% of helmets have them fitted, so they were probably only needed for the small number of people who had a real problem with the fitting of their Mk 7 helmet, and so only saw very limited use. Either way, they are a great accessory to accompany the Mk 7 in my collection.
