When I picked up the Utility blanket we looked at last month, II also bought a second wartime blanket albeit one that had travelled a little further to reach the charity shop in West Yorkshire! This blanket comes from Australia and is manufactured in a dark grey wool:
There are a number of different Australian blanket patterns available, however this one has three blue stripes running across it:
The edge of the blanket is bound with a red blanket stitch:
A label sewn to the blanket shows it was manufactured in 1943 in Australia, the V30 code being the code for a particular manufacturer:
There are hundreds of different codes, the first letter is believed to relate to the state- V for Victoria, N for New South Wales, Q for Queensland, T for Tasmania etc. but so far very little evidence has been found for which factory used which code so it is hard to tie down manufacturer for items.
