This week’s postcard is a rather nice studio shot of a soldier and a civilian friend, taken either during or just after World War 1:

Unusually, what interests us in this postcard is not the soldier, but his rather nattily dressed friend, who wears two badges on the lapels of his suit:

The right hand badge is clearly a regimental cap badge, whilst the badge on the right is the silver ‘wound’ badge awarded to men who were invalided out of the services:

It would be fascinating to know more about this image. Are the men friends who met in the army? Are they relations, brothers perhaps? Sadly this is lost to the mists of time, but we are left with an intriguing and poignient postcard.
