One of the most distinctive ammunition boxes out there to find is the C206 that was used to carry ammunition for the 25 pounder field gun. This box carried eight rounds and the box measures 19″x9.7″x12.1″:

The lid of the box has eight circular depressions in the lid that correspond with the shells carried within. The lid is secured by two hinges on the rear and a pair of spring clips on the front to hold it down:

In service these clips were wired down with fine grade wire through a pair of small metal eyelets:

These were then sealed with a piece of lead to prevent tampering. The box has two metal handles, one at either end of the box, this box still has the stencilling showing through at one end:

The box is marked on the lid as being a C2606. It is too corroded on the top to read clearly, but on the underside the code can easily be seen:

It is also dated 1942:

This box was used to carry a variety of different 25 pounder ammunition, the weight of the box changing depending on the different types of ammunition being carried:
